Now the question is, who do I piss off, the sturgeons, the bats, or the vlads? I'm not going after the imperials (every unit they have is good) and the kush are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ suicide. So best option is basically raiding in, hitting a weak noble (I have a fairly high movement speed so I can do that), and then running away to sell loot and prisoners until I have a strong force of my own. You can probably score a city and a castle before then, but keeping them will be the issue. If you're set on being independent and forging your own kingdom the hard way, I'd suggest a very strong party of at least 200 men, and a decent roster of companion parties before attempting it. Griefing nobles and freeing them also seems to be the best way to make friends with them, which you will want to bring over to your new kingdom eventually. It gives you the opportunity to gain huge amounts of renown and wealth through hit and run attacks, and selling off the loot and prisoners in friendly territory. Well, being independent and at war with people isn't a bad thing.

you cannot create an army unless you're in a kingdom - either a vassal (not mercenary, need to be full vassal) to some other king, or king of your own (and you can't be king of your own, without already having obtained a fief).

I will note that so far (playing on realistic with "challenging" AI) none of the siege battles manually executed have been as scary as Warband's siege battles were, where a billion archers will demolish your troops as they climb up two ladders into a frothing pit filled with top-tier melee infantry.ĭefending your castle is a ♥♥♥♥♥ if you don't have a decent garrison (difficult to achieve after a siege battle) it will be besieged very quickly. If you use the "send troops" simulation, expect a disproportionate amount of casualties your way. Militia are pushovers, but the enemy garrison becomes really scary in a siege battle if they've got wall protection and siege engines. Siege towers and a battering ram are usually worth it though, unless the garrison is really tiny. No other siege engine is worth using - ballistae are terrible for taking down walls and enemy siege engines, and the onagers have a similar build time to trebuchets yet a fraction of the HP, which means you'll be building a lot more of them. I strongly suggest creating an army and taking every opportunity to strengthen yourself beforehand because the second you start besieging a castle, EVERY ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ within a 100km radius will rock up to tell you who owns the neighbourhood you just walked into.Īs Malovane said, siege engines generally take way too long - only use them if you're confident your army is big enough that you won't be attacked while waiting, because constructing and demolishing walls with trebuchets will take in-game weeks.
